Supporting ADHD moms of ADHD kids

A Day in the Life of a Mom with ADHD

Some days it feels like absolutely nothing goes as it should. It’s exhausting! Everything is up to you, and you feel defeated. The kids were late to school… again. Your husband made yet another comment about the house being a mess. It doesn’t matter what you do – it just isn’t good enough. To top it all off, your child was just diagnosed with ADHD. Now there is even more you have to keep up with. You’ve been wondering for a while if the disorganization and chaos are all your fault. If only you were a better parent, more focused, more organized, more on top of things then maybe, just maybe you could accomplish more each day. Looking around, other moms are getting it done, so why can’t you? Could you have ADHD too?

ADHD in Motherhood

I can completely relate to how you are feeling since I am an ADHD mom. Being an ADHD mom is so incredibly challenging! We are responsible for everything, but we can barely keep track of ourselves half the time. Living with ADHD and being responsible for other small humans is often overwhelming. Whether you have always known you have ADHD, or you are just now realizing it, I am so glad you made it here. ADHD parenting is difficult because we are responsible for so much: We must take care of the home and the children, which leads to barely enough time for ourselves. Add in working hours, and we barely function at times. Let’s pause and ignore the guilt for a minute. When you stop and think about it, our wants really are fairly simple.

Being a Mom with ADHD

➤ What we really want is to:

  • Drop the kids off at school on time
  • Have a productive day of work and meet expectations
  • Arrive on time to carpool pick up
  • Sign our child’s daily agenda AND help with homework
  • Create an amazing home cooked meal
  • Have the kids in bed on time each night
  • Clean the house and put away the laundry
  • Be an amazing wife and mom
  • Communicate well with children and spouse

➤ What really happens is:

  • Jump out of bed….overslept again
  • Scream at kids for not getting dressed
  • Check in on kids for what seems like the 20th time; they are still not ready
  • We’re running late… again
  • Kids eat breakfast in the car
  • Put shoes on in the car
  • We made it right before the bell!
  • And that’s just the chaos of the first hour of the day…..the rest goes like this
  • Can’t stay focused at work
  • Pick up fast food on the way home
  • Too tired to have quality time with spouse
  • The house stays messy and chores don’t get finished

ADHD moms have a lot on their plates. What would life look like if you could truly accomplish all your daily objectives? This is the goal of ADHD Parent Coaching! It is all about providing a double level of support because when we support you, your ADHD child also begins to thrive.

Common goals of ADHD parent coaching for ADHD moms are:

  • Better organization (executive functioning) to get all the things accomplished
  • Less yelling/anger at kids (and spouse?)
  • Improved communication with your kids and spouse
  • Better, more realistic expectations for yourself and your family
  • More confidence
  • Reduce feeling overwhelmed

How do you get there?

This is a once weekly commitment (however many moms choose to meet twice weekly for more accountability) that focuses on increasing your knowledge of ADHD on the neuro-developmental level. This means you will thoroughly understand how ADHD impacts you and your family, and how to create new routines and skills that actually make a difference. Moms can expect to meet weekly for approximately 4-6 months to truly focus on creating functional and effective change. Best of all, at the end you can expect increased confidence, a lot less yelling, improved communication with family, and a better sense of accomplishment.  You don’t have to feel exhausted and alone. Let’s do this ADHD mom experience together. From one ADHD mom to another- you’ve got this!
