Executive Function Coaching

One of the most challenging things about supporting an ADHD loved one is dealing with the constant forgetfulness, losing of things, and disorganization.

The chaos can feel absolutely overwhelming, and the desire to fix or do things for them only worsens the problem. The coddling has gone on for so long that it seems like they can’t do anything on their own. Does this sound familiar? What is needed in this situation is executive function coaching, and there are two directions you can take.

What is an Executive Functioning Coach?

One option is executive function coaching for your child and/or spouse. The focus of this approach is for THEM to handle their own executive functioning. The problem with this process is they have to be engaged, and ready for change. In addition, unless they are medicated, aware of their ADHD diagnosis, and clued into how their behavior impacts others, then typically their direct participation in the executive function coaching won’t make a difference. It is often an absolute waste of time and money because if they were ready to change, it would have happened already. This is why we don’t offer this service because most of the time it DOESN’T WORK!

How Our ADHD Executive Coaching Differs

The other option is OUR executive functioning coaching approach. We focus on being the  coach for YOU, so that you will have the skills to transition in to being the executive functioning coach for your child and/or spouse.

If you are reading this page it is probably because you are a fixer, a doer, and slightly or very codependent. You have a tendency to do too much for other people, and you are feeling a twinge of burnout, or even full blown burnout. You really need others to just step up and do their own job, whether that is putting away that coffee cup, or doing their own laundry. Basically, you want and need change to happen!

Here is how OUR executive function coaching can help:

  • We focus on teaching skills, so you can stop coddling and enabling those around you.
  • We recognize that your family may not be ready or capable of improving their own executive functioning. However, YOU can reduce their dependence on you by creating effective boundaries, and developing consistent techniques that aid others in being more independent from you.
  • We know how important it is for you to have a break. Being a mom is exhausting! We know that you won’t get a break until your family learns how to take charge, but you also question when it is too soon to pull back a bit. We will help you with this decision.

Our executive function coaching is about giving you the tools to help your loved ones be successful. It is learning when you can pull back, and not be in a state of panic when it happens. Our goal is to create a home environment where you do not have to be in charge of everyone and everything. We are here to help you achieve the break and peace of mind you deserve.
